George's walk from Land's End to John O' Groats
George Coombes
My Story
Hello,
My name is George, and for three months from the end of May I'm walking the length of the UK - roughly 1200 miles - to raise money for Salusbury World Refugee Centre.
I will be carrying all my gear with me (tent, sleeping bag, cooking equipment etc) and will be wild camping for the whole three months, with the rare night in a B&B to sleep in a soft bed and have what I imagine will be a desperately needed shower.
Salusbury World is the only school-based refugee charity in the UK. This puts them in a unique position to provide educational support for children, but also to work with the whole family to help them settle into the local community and provide vital practical support.
Salusbury World is attached to Salusbury Primary School, which was my primary school. Through this personal connection, I have seen first-hand how important Salusbury World has been to classmates in making our little part of London feel like home.
The work of Salusbury World feels even more significant given recent events in Afghanistan and Ukraine, and the millions of people who have been forced to leave their homes and lives behind. It is hard to comprehend undertaking such a journey, which makes my walk pale in comparison, and it cannot be overstated how important the work of Salusbury World is for arriving refugees.
In summary, I would be incredibly grateful if you could donate to this page and support me on my walk for their brilliant cause. Please give as much or as little as you can, as every penny will be put to great use.
I plan to post (semi) regular updates of the journey on social media so if you get your kicks from shoddy photography of never heard of British rural regions, then feel free to add me on Instagram (@george_coombes) or Facebook (@GeorgeTattumCoombes) to watch the walk unfold.
